Thinking up a name
As soon as the singer Adele came out of the woodworks I thought damn.. I can never just be myself and be famous now. She's stole the limelight.
If you google Adele she's the first person to come up, and the most popular. I get jokes about Adele all the time, during work 'Oh can you sing?' No.. I can't, and I've heard this joke a million times.
I first set up my tumblr account as AMP illustrations. However my friends have recently told me that there is a DJ called Annie Mac that puts on events called 'Annie Mac Projects - AMP.'
I've kept it up and running for now, updating it because this is something that I feel I am half pleased with showing people if they ask to see examples of my work. I promote this through Instagram and Facebook.
I have also added bits of my work to my tip trays in the restaurant I work in with my tumblr page along the bottom as a means of advertisement. This means all age ranges can see the work and not just people that I network with already.

These need updating though they are really old. However, I have to be careful with what I can put on display, it can't be offensive (which most of my work is!)
I decided I need a name that is original. Something completely irrelevant to me and my name. Speaking to John he said why not be 'not that adele' which is funny, but even still I am making people immediately think of the famous Adele and not myself.
I also want to come up with a name that could be a potential business in the future, an online presence. Something that sounds like it involves a group of people and not just me.
Jolly Awesome
I don't like this name, but I think as an idea it works well because Jolly Awesome sounds like a brand, a group of practitioners but when you read the 'about' section it's actually just one illustrator named Matt. Matt is such a common name though, whereas Jolly Awesome is unique.
I thought back to the presentations we did collaberatively and the business we came up with. I came up with the name 'BOW DOWN' referencing how society bows down to the media, social groups, modern culture. I think this worked really well and I also designed our logo. I kind of feel like I want to keep this for myself and steal it! Bow down is a command, like you're telling people to take notice of you. It will make people think why do I have to bow down? What am i bowing to? Why are they so important? Immediately giving you a sense of authority and importance for people to pay attention to your work, you're trying to say something.
Communicating with other practitioners/companies
After presentations into communicating with other illustrators, practitioners or companies this gave me more confidence to email people and ask questions. I started to take on the role of communicator within other modules (collaberatively) being the spokesperson.
Propercorn
This then boosted more confidence to get in touch with other companies. Working on Greetings Cards for 505 I wanted to know more about the card industry, selling images to distributors and what kind of work sells well. I emailed Scribbler and Paperchase as well as Brainbox Candy but got no replies.
I was particularly disappointed with Brainbox Candy because their website seemed pretty cool and laid back about contacting them. Maybe I should mail them some biscuits!?
What kind of pack I want to put together
I want something that is quite slick in terms of the layout; and professional because the work I make is funny but I want to be taken seriously. I don't want to hand out business cards that are going to make me a little embarassed. I think if i create a logo I would have that on it. I thought about illustrating myself also with BOW DOWN next to it and my details underneath. I am unsure as of yet.
I really want it to be lighthearted, relaxed, current and funny. I want it to catch peoples attention but at the same time just be really simple and slick.
I started looking at the type of website I want to set up for myself once I am set on a name. I definitely think right now I would like to be called BOW DOWN; but need to see what others think.
I was invited to Cargo Collective by a third year graphic designer so set this up under the name BOW DOWN.
I started to look into the templates and layouts that I was interested in. I quite liked these :
Really slick and simple, black and white, maybe one splash of colour.. With the logo inside of a shape perhaps.
This was my basic idea - I want a tall font inside of a shape and for that to be my logo, then the logo be at the top or left hand side of the website
Pasted it onto here just to see how it would look :
I think hand written text looks better. I will ask a graphic designer to help me with this because my effort has been really poor. I messaged my friend who is in 3rd year and she said she will help me if I tell her what I want.

Battling with a logo
I saw these two designs from promo packs on Pinterest and really liked the shapes and colours. I liked the idea of the cream, but maybe with grey colours or brown. I decided to have a play around again see if I could make the logo myself rather than troubling a graphic designer

More business packs I liked
I had this as a rough idea for a business card
I then thought why not make my business card hexagon shaped and have the text on the back

I then thought maybe something interactive for a flyer type of promotion where you open up the triangles for the information to be underneath on the back. I put together a template of how it would be opened up, to print out and have a play around with folding into a hexagon
On the front of it when it is opened up I need to consider where the text will be placed and at what angle when I make the template
To keep up with the hexagon theme I could have 6 mini hexagons with images of my work on the front and the name of the brand along with my details on the back. I can promote myself all day long but if no one sees my work it will seem pretty irrelevant
Car stickers
My family run a car business so I thought car stickers could be a good way of advertising my logo as I know this is something that works as a form of advertisement

CD disk of work
Beer mat
As my work is something that is often quite offensive and for an older audience I thought why not cater to this audience with the locations my work could be seen such as pubs bars etc
Printers
Uni print room is all booked
Where am I going to get the stuff produced?
Printers in Leeds
I have started to consider how I can use my logo on products across other modules such as 505 on my greetings cards

I really don't think that my design is substantial to represent me. I would not be proud of it as a logo on a website or on products. I feel I need help with this as logo's are not my strong point! I may need to ask for help from someone with better digital skills than me in that field.
I am also starting to think that my logo is not fun, or perhaps my pack idea is not fun and I feel like I'm quite a fun person.
When I had the last seminar with John he said to ensure that our pack said enough about us, and who we were. I dont feel like a boring logo says enough about who I am. Perhaps I need to hand generate it. I think I definitely want a pack that's interactive.
I work at TGI fridays and each year we have a theme and sort of a goal to adhere to. This year its all about having fun, having fun with our guests and with each other. They sent us a fun box to keep us going and inside there's magic tricks, games, a rubik's cube, juggling balls.
I thought this could be a great idea for my pack to show that I am quite a fun humorous person who wants to just keep things light hearted and make people smile. I could have a pretty serious logo still for the sake of my websites and cvs etc to show that I do have that serious, business-headed side to me but overall I am fun.
I am not sure if I can print onto a rubik's cube it is something I need to look into but I thought that would be great to include, if not a set of cards, each illustrated with my logo on the back or with some of my illustrations. A playing card could also be my business card.
I think playing cards are great because you can illustrate them and put your information on them, and if people are being sociable with them handling them constantly they will read them. Playing cards can be taken everywhere in the world to pass time or at a social gathering. This could be a great form of advertisement. I think this ties in well with the idea of a beer mat as well because these are the sort of audience I would expect to buy my work and get involved with it. People who are fun, have a sense of humor and want to socialise with others, speak about my work.
Hooray! You can print your own rubiks cube on http://www.designyourcube.com/
The cube has 6 sizes so you can upload upto 6 images. This is great because I could include my logo, an image of me, and some of my work. Good times!
The other idea I had was scratchcards. I could have my illustration then you have to scratch to find out my information like my name and email address. I think this is great because it's interactive and making people feel like the real prize is finding out who I am and how they can get involved in my work
I found templates for this, playing cards and beer mats on ivorygraphics.co.uk
Only problem with this, is the price, they seem to only come in packs and the cheapest I've found is £80
